Is Home Health Care the same as Home Care?
Although they may sound similar, “home care” and “home health care” are actually different services. Understanding the distinction between the two can be crucial when making an informed decision about how to best support your loved one at home.
“Home care” refers to non-medical assistance provided to someone in their home due to an injury, illness, or difficulty performing daily activities. This help is offered by a professional Caregiver and includes services like cleaning, cooking, bathing, feeding, and other household tasks or daily living activities for seniors or others who need support with these tasks.
On the other hand, “home health care” involves the treatment of illness, injury, disability, or disease through nursing, medical, and other health-related services. These services are provided in the patient’s home and must be performed by a licensed healthcare professional. Home health care requires a doctor’s written order and is typically carried out by a Nurse, Physical Therapist, or Occupational Therapist who visits the home to provide treatment.
The difference between home care and home health care is subtle but significant. Both services, however, offer the assistance needed to ensure that you or your loved one can live comfortably at home.
Serenity Care Agency’s and home care services provide safety, comfort, and companionship for those in need, enabling them to live independently with the support of a healthcare professional.
When does someone need a Caregiver?
The need for a Caregiver (also referred to as a Home Health Aide or HHA) depends on an individual’s specific situation and living conditions. For seniors who wish to maintain their independence by aging at home, Caregivers can assist them in living safely and comfortably in their own environment. Some individuals may require ongoing support, while others might only need temporary help following surgery or an illness. Serenity Care Agency’s certified, reliable Caregivers attend to every personal need while offering genuine companionship and assistance.
How do I find the right Caregiver for my loved one?
Our Caregivers will meet with you and your loved one to conduct a comprehensive assessment of everyone’s specific needs, including those of the patient and their family. We begin by meeting in the comfort of your home to discuss your emotional, social, and cultural needs, followed by a safety inspection of the residence. We’ll talk about the services you require and how we can support you. Serenity Care Agency will then create a personalized care plan and collaborate with you to ensure it meets your satisfaction. Once the plan is finalized, we will review our list of compatible Caregivers to find the best match for your needs. Our process is designed to ensure that every client receives the genuine care they deserve. We want you and your loved ones to feel as confident as possible in your Caregiver and the care you receive.
How much does home care cost?
Home care costs can be covered by Medicaid or Medicare, or you may opt to pay out-of-pocket. Clients needing long-term, ongoing care may qualify for Medicaid coverage if they meet eligibility criteria. Those who qualify for short-term care might be covered by Medicare. For clients who don’t qualify for either program or wish to add more hours to their Medicaid/Medicare plan of care, private payment for home care services is an option. We understand that this can be confusing, which is why we are here to assist you every step of the way. Call us today or visit your local office, and we’ll be happy to guide you through the eligibility and enrollment process, as well as help you begin your home care journey.

A representative will reach out to understand your needs and assist you with the enrollment process. How long does it take to get a Caregiver?
The process can vary significantly depending on whether you are new to home care or simply switching to Serenity Care Agency from another agency.
For clients already enrolled in a Managed Long-Term Care (MLTC) plan through Medicaid, the process is relatively simple, and we can quickly match you with a Caregiver/Home Health Aide.
However, if you are just starting your home care journey, you will need to enroll in a Managed Long-Term Care plan through the state, which can take 4-8 weeks to complete. While this may seem overwhelming, the Serenity Care Agency Intake Department is here to guide you every step of the way, helping you understand, complete, and submit your application. We are always available to address any questions or concerns you may have throughout the process; our goal is to make this transition as smooth and easy as possible for you or your loved one.
